Karen Hallmark grew up in Fort Worth, Texas where she met and married her husband Clay. They lived in Austin for 38 years and raised a daughter and a son. They moved to Burnet in 2008.
In 2010, Karen started taking oil painting lessons from Katherine Uitz. She joined the Highland Arts Guild in 2014. She now takes lessons from Diana Goble and occasionally still, Katherine Uitz. She has also taken a number of other classes and workshops at the gallery and elsewhere.
Karen and Clay enjoy traveling and taking many photos with painting subjects in mind. She also enjoys visiting galleries and museums to study other artists' works. Karen says, "Of all the creative things I've done or tried, oil painting is the most rewarding, and also the most challenging. It is sometimes frustrating, but always fun."
