It started with a fish...
Following a fishing trip a few years ago to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, I asked my father, Johnnie Fields, to help me paint a life-size watercolor of a gorgeous rainbow trout that I had caught. That first painting changed my life.
My dad started painting while attending the University of Texas majoring in architecture. He painted throughout his life, and in the last twenty years of his life, he taught hundreds of people how to paint with watercolor.
In 2010 I took my first watercolor class from my dad, and I was hooked. In 2017 I began painting in oil and have enjoyed studying and taking classes from various teachers. I do not have an academic art background. I was actually a PE major, and my first teaching job was as an elementary school PE teacher and coach. I earned my classroom certification and taught first and second grade for 12 years. I have enjoyed combining my love for teaching with my passion for art by teaching art classes to students in the Highland Lakes area. Most recently, I have expanded my skills by focusing on painting "en plein air." My favorite subjects to paint are flowers, nature, structures and pet portraits, especially dogs.
